Fallout Shelter, the mobile game that has you take on the role as an ever magnanimous overseer in one of Vault-Tec's Vaults, will be getting its first big content update this week. The game, which is set in the same universe as the main Fallout games, was released in June of last year and has since went on to become the biggest mobile release on the iOS app store since, beating Candy Crush Saga. Fallout Shelter also won a few mobile game of the year awards at award shows like D.I.C.E. Since its release Bethesda has added a few new features to Fallout Shelter, including pets, the ability to save games to the cloud and a survival mode that turns up the difficulty significantly.
In a blog post on the official Bethesda website, the developer outlines the changes and new features coming in update 1.4.
Players will now be able to turn their junk into items, essentially adding a crafting system to the game. Gear and armor can be further customized with the new Weapon and Armor crafting rooms, which allow you to create your own items akin to the system in Fallout 4. Furthermore, lunchboxes will now include a 5th Junk card in them, and dwellers who are out exploring may bring back junk as well.
Another feature that will be added to the game is the new barbershop room, which allows you to customize the look and feel of your dwellers. New outfits can be crafted or obtained via lunchboxes.
Bethesda is also adding new dog and cat variations to the game, as well as a new parrot pet. All pets will have new bonuses in addition to their old ones as well.
And, last but not least, the game will now accurately reflect the time of day!
