News has come out via an interview between GameInformer and Todd Howard about various behind the scene factors during the pre and post launch of Fallout 4. Most importantly from this interview though has been the reveal of a window for when we can expect to see official mod support coming to Fallout 4. This interview was conducted at the D.I.C.E event just before Todd Howard took to the stage to accept Fallout 4's Game of the Year award.
It was back during the Bethesda E3 keynote last year that when Todd Howard was on stage he announced that not only PC but also that the Xbox One would be getting mod support after launch. Some time after that it was also brought up that this mod support will also be coming to PlayStation 4. We have been hearing early 2016 for a while now but it is finally revealed that the Creation Kit will be released between the first two DLC's, which are due in March and April. This will serve as a test to make sure that it is working for the public before they launch mod support on Xbox One and PS4.
At the moment from the launch of the PC mod support we know that "it'll probably be a good month before it hits Xbox One, and another month for PlayStation 4." This puts mod support at a tentative May for Xbox One and June for PlayStation 4. There is still no proper word though on how mods will be implemented on console.
Mod support isn't the only thing that PC is getting ahead of consoles either as Fallout 4 Survival mode will be out as a Steam beta before anywhere else. Survival is hitting PC first because it is an easier platform for the team working on it to be able to fix any issues quickly. It will only be when the team is happy with survival mode that they will not only take it out of Steam beta but also release it for the consoles.
Howard also went on to detail some of the features of survival mode explaining that you wont be able to save unless you're sleeping, there will be no fast travel functionality, and the team is working on a variety of diseases that will be able to infect your character as you explore the world. Their aim is not to make it harder due to enemy difficulty and higher, but because of the variety of things you'll need to keep an eye out for. Don't expect enemies to become bullet sponges but you will need to be far more aware of your surroundings in general.
