 Saints Row: The Third Remastered

It's time to head back to Steelport. Again. Deep Silver has announced a full remaster of Saints Row: The Third for modern consoles. Thanks to the work of developer Sperasoft, gamers on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC can experience retextured environments, character models and visual effects as well as full 4K graphics and a new lighting engine. The package comes packed with all the DLC from past releases (previously known as "The Full Package"), making this a candidate for the definitive version of this open-world classic.

Talking with Art Directors Frank Marquart and Nikolay Stoyanov, they were clear that the only thing getting a facelift was the graphics. All the gameplay remains intact, including full campaign co-op and the insane customization options found in the original. This is based on the most recent releases, so there was no mention of the original game's multiplayer Whored mode. However, the full soundtrack does return, a vital part of what makes The Third so memorable. The main game offers one of the best open-world experiences around even today, going places that gamers have to see to believe.

Saints Row: The Third was rereleased in 2019 on Nintendo Switch, and it's also available via Backward Compatability on Xbox One. When asked why previous editions of the Saints Row saga haven't been rereleased with such frequency, Frank stated that the games would require a "full remake".

It was also shared that the game would run in 4K but aims for 30 FPS due to the limitations of the original work. Perhaps that could change with a release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but neither Frank or Nikolay would commit to any development on next-gen hardware. For now, if you want to visit Steelport for the first time, this new remaster could be just the ticket. Saints Row: The Third Remastered hits Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Epic Games Store on May 22.
