Devolver Digital is breaking the third wall once more with a new, extremely unique title that brings the excitement of video game conventions to your very own computer screen with Devolverland Expo.
The game is an FPS title developed by Flying Wild Hog (creators of the new Shadow Warrior Games) and published by, you guessed it, Devolver Digital. It's a self-described "marketing simulator" that takes the experience of conventions like E3 to the next level. Indeed, you won't just be traveling around a convention center - you'll have to contend with the "security systems" and experience Devolver's catalog in all its glory.
Games featured in this title include Fall Guys, Blightbound, Disc Room, Shadow Warrior 3, and more. Each area has its own fun theme centered on a specific game. The Fall Guys exhibit, for example, has a colorful playroom aesthetic with soft flooring and little Fall Guys running around waiting to be shot at. There's even a morbid Weird West area, which is an upcoming immersive sim by WolfEye Studios.
As for gameplay, other than being an FPS, Devolverland Expo's Steam page says you will "watch and retrieve all the trailers, gameplay demo videos, and other secrets lost in the expo's cancellation."
So, if you want to experience all the fun a convention has to offer - and apparently the danger - check out Devolverland Expo on Steam, which is free right now.
This is a genius move by Devolver. They really have mastered the ways of marketing. Most gamers can probably agree that visiting a convention like E3 or PAX is a dream. Devolverland Expo seems like a fun, over-the-top way for individuals to explore such a scenario in lieu of the pandemic. While I can't say I'm interested in all of the games Devolver has to offer, this is definitely an incentive for me to explore more of their upcoming offerings.
