It was announced today that Nintendo will be releasing DLC in a season pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma announced today in a short video on Youtube that Breath of the Wild will have an expansion pass that is available for purchase. The expansion pass works similar to what was seen with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as it offers players a ton of DLC that will be released during the course of the year.

The Breath of the Wild expansion pass, priced at $20 by Aonuma, will include two new sets of content that will be released later this year. The first set, which is slated for the Summer of 2017, will add additional map features, a new Cave of Trials challenge, and hard mode to the game. The second set, slated for a Winter release, will be a new original story with a new, original dungeon, as well as additional challenges promised.

In addition to the major two packs, Breath of the Wild will also have an expansion pass bonus that will add three new treasure chests to the game. The chests will contain exclusive in-game clothing and helpful items for players and will be found on the game's first area, the Great Plateau.

It should also be noted that the content packs cannot be purchased separately, they only come in this expansion pass bundle. So to gain any of the content offered, you need to purchase the whole expansion pass.

The expansion pass will be available after Breath of the Wild is released on March 3rd, and will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U versions of the game.

This is the first time The Legend of Zelda series will feature expansion content in the game proper, but not the first time Nintendo has added or changed content to a Zelda game. Most famously, Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest bundle back for the Nintendo Gamecube, which featured the original game and a remixed dungeons version of the game. We also saw Nintendo expand the HD remake of Twilight Princess last year with the optional dungeon the Cave of Shadows, although it required the use of an Amiibo to access.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch on March 3rd.
