A Far Away Realm

Lava Games is a new studio from veteran developers from Riot, EA, Dice, and more, and they have announced their first game: A Far Away realm, which is a Mario-inspired hero shooter.

“In A Far Away Realm, not only have we designed visually stunning worlds and charming hero characters, but we’ve also dedicated particular attention to the gameplay’s mechanics and feel,” explains Kaya Tilev, Lava Games founder and Creative Director. “Imagine the signature ‘slide and bounce’ of your favourite 3D platformer, reimagined as a bubbly multiplayer shooter for players of all ages – enjoyed either nonchalantly or competitively.”

Lava Games is also being supported by Trip Hawkins, who founded EA, back when it was Electronic Artists and aimed at making developers the 'star'. He called Kaya Tilev a "new gen CEO of a next gen game company," with A Far Away Realm apparently "well-timed to be a winner", which is something we'll have to find out, won't we?

A Far Away Realm began development in mid-2020, so it's still fairly early on. The game itself is described as a "arcade third-person hero-based platform shooter", which I'm fairly confident is the first of its kind or at least the first game described in that way. Players will choose their character and journey across different planets to find shiny crystals and bubbly flowers while battling opponents online with powerful abilities. The control scheme is apparently "stripped-back", which combined with the "explosive mechanics and wacky physics" should allow players a relatively unique feeling of movement.

The game is being built for players, streamers, and viewers, which means there won't be much in the way of graphic violence, gore, or nudity, which is to be expected given that it's meant to be a family-friendly game.

For those eager to check out A Far Away Realm, be sure to stay tuned to TechRaptor for more details as the game is in early development. This means the launch platforms and the release date will be revealed at a later date.
