Sony State of Play 2022 Preview Image

We're at the start of that time of year already, the months formerly known as E3 2022. With no E3 we can still all be treated to a series of game showcases and the first up is none other than Sony. Still singing the successes of the PlayStation 5 and big titles like Horizon Forbidden West, this event will show off what fans can look forward to in the future. While we know this event will cover third-party reveals and several PSVR2 titles there's some rumor that PC releases of games like Returnal or Sackboy's Big Adventure will be part of the billing.

Horizon Forbidden West New Game+ and Ultra Hard Mode

Before the event was even able to begin, PlayStation users noticed that Horizon Forbidden West had a new set of Trophies tied to a New Game+ mode and an Ultra Hard difficulty mode. It looks like we'll be hearing more about it during the conference but for now maybe it's time to dive back into the world of Horizon Forbidden West.

After a brief pre-roll showing off a series of Sony titles, we're ready for the first announcement of the State of Play 2022.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Coming Next March

Starting immediately the State of Play 2022 launches us immediately into our first trailer of the night. Displaying March 24th, 2023 the first trailer is for Resident Evil 4 Remaster. Scenes show Leon accepting his mission from the president and showing up in a zombie filled village. Key moments and meetings from the game are cycled through quickly, showing off the new and improved look for PlayStation 5.

There will also be content for the PlayStation VR2 related to Resident Evil 4, but nothing further was revealed at this time.

The previously mentioned New Game+ and Ultra Hard difficulty modes were also announced at this time. Other features include getting to reset your skill points, armor transmogs, and new weapons.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered Coming to PC

Next up some PlayStation games are getting ported to PC. The first game to get a port is Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered. What was originally a PlayStation 4 game, then PlayStation 5, is now coming to PC. This PC release will be coming August 12th 2022.

While it wasn't announced during the State of Play 2022 in the PlayStation Blog post it was confirmed that Peter Parker won't be the only Spider-Man to hit your PC. Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be coming to PC.

New Trailer for Stray Shown Off

Stray, an upcoming game where you play as a cat in a futuristic world, from Annapurna was the next title to be featured at the State of Play 2022. This trailer shows not only humanoid enemies but disgusting worm-like entities. Callisto Protocol will release on PS4 and PS5 on December 2nd, 2022.

Roller Skating Third Person Shooter Rollerdrome Announced

From Private Division the next stylized trailer shows off a game where you roller skate around an arena shooting at your enemies. Pull off sick flips, wall ride, and soar through the skies as you deal damage to anything that comes your way. Rollerdrome is coming out August 16th for PS4 and PS5.

Dating Sim + Action RPG Eternights Announced

With a harsh turn we're greeted to an image of a boy in a classic anime style having his hand removed. Transitioning quickly from cutscene to gameplay this third person action RPG shows a variety of high-school kids summoning all kinds of neon weapons to take out robotic foes in a future dystopic city. This title is called Enternights and will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in early 2023. This game is a combination action game mixed with dating sim elements.

Our First Look at Street Fighter 6, Coming 2023

Street Fighter 6 is the next big game to get a showing at the State of Play 2022. Chun-Li shows up to take on this protagonist in one of the city locations. We're treated to a montage of different fighters in their home turf. Street Fighter 6 will be coming in 2023, no further time frame was given.

Tunic Coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 in September

The next game coming to PlayStation is Tunic. This indie title released earlier this year follows an adorable fox in and amazingly colorful world. With a mix of Zelda and Soulslike elements this game will be coming to PS4 and PS5 on September 27th. Don't miss it!

Indie Game Season Announced

Another indie title coming to PS4 and PS5 is Season. The trailer shows the protagonist exploring the world, cycling around, and interacting with different people along the way. The gameplay shows how it's your role to take photos and record sounds around the world. This game is set in a world that might end with the end of the season. Season is releasing in Autumn 2022.

Final Fantasy XVI Coming Summer 2023

Final Fantasy XVI is the next title to get an update. As well as an upcoming trailer interviews will also be beginning so fans will start to hear more and more about this games release. The trailer details the Dominance, a power that slowly destroys those who use it. A series of well known Final Fantasy summons are shown as characters transform. We get to see more detailed combat showing the return of the stagger feature that has been popular for the last few FF entries.

On top of that the character also seems to charge a multi-section gauge under their health, likely acting as action points to be spent. The trailer ends in a series of monumental battles against Tita, Liquid Flame, Garuda, and more. FFXVI will focus on those characters who are able to transform into each of these summons and on who will be Ifrit. Summer 2023 is the release window for Final Fantasy XVI.

With that the State of Play 2022 is over, bringing not only massive AAA explosive titles like Final Fantasy XVI but also what fans can expect of PSVR2, as well as some charming indies.
