The Game Awards 2021

The Game Awards 2021 are a combination of pop culture, industry awards, and another place for fans of Video Games to keep an eye out for all the fun new games coming our way. For this piece though we'll be keeping you up to date on all of the announcements that come across the stage. There's been plenty of teasing already that we'll get appearances from Sonic the Hedgehog to many other fan-favorite franchises and we're to expect a few surprises along the way too.

We'll be updating this article live so if you're not able to watch then be sure to refresh to stay on top of all of the announcements.

Tunic Release Date

It wouldn't be an award show in recent years if the show didn't begin with a world premiere. First up is a new trailer of Tunic, an upcoming action-adventure title where players explore an island as a tunic-wearing fox. This new trailer shows the grassy overworld we're used to seeing, while also delving into deeper dungeons. Tunic will release on March 16th on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

King of Fighters XV Open Beta

King of Fighters XV is the next title to get a World Premier trailer. Khronen is joining the roster as a new beta for upcoming King of Fighters XV is coming to PlayStation 4 and Playstation 5. This Open Beta will be the 18th of December.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Rolling right into the next premier this "Game Based on True Events" shows beautiful country sides and cars making their way down country roads. Suddenly there's a shift in tone to horror as we see meat grinders and a man suspended by his ankles. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre from Sumo Nottingham is a new horror multiplayer title.

Homeworld 3 Revealed

The next trailer shows a beautiful desertscape as ships float over the planets surface engaging in battles. Filled with fantastic tribal beats we don't learn too much more about this game other than the space based combat. This game is revealed to be Homeworld 3. It will come to Epic and Steam in Q4 2022.

The Expanse by Telltale

Giving no time for pause Telltale Games is up next to show off their new game The Expanse. Returning to their traditional storytelling format The Expanse: A Telltale Series follows Kamina Drummer. There was no release window attached to the trailer, so you'll have to wait.

Babylon's Fall

The next trailer shows off Square Enix' and Platinum's upcoming action game Babylon's Fall. The trailer gives a few story hints but mostly focuses on the kind of off-the-wall high octane action sequences as spells are thrown, oversized weapons and wielded, and unnatural abilities are used to deal devastating damage. Babylon's Fall will be released on March 3rd, those who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition will get early access.

Chivalry II

Chivalry II's new trailer shows off first-person melee combat and announces that there's currently a free weekend that includes a number of holiday-specific environments.. Coming soon will be a new map including new objectives to learn and combat to engage in. House Aberfel will be coming in 2022.

Monster Hunter Rise

Monster Hunter fans have something to be excited for with this next trailer. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak gameplay is shown. With the new expansion you'll also be able to look forward to new amiibos.

Thirsty Suitors

A new title from Annapurina shows off a strange combination of flirt-fighting. Explore the world on your skateboard, interact with strange dancing characters, even cook with flair in this game. Thirsty Suitors is the name of this strange adventure, it will be coming soon.

Evil West

After being announced at last years Game Awards we're finally getting to see gameplay for a horror themed western title. The cowboy from the trailer swings his gun, teleports with an electric aura and juggles demons like they're nothing. Fight enemies from normal zombies to winged demons. Evil West will release in 2022.

Have a Nice Death

A new trailer from Perfect World shows a Grim Reaper who realizes that those under him have been a bit over eager. After losing his temper it's time to get everyone back in line. Embark on a 2D sidescrolling adventure to show everyone there's a reason you're the boss. The gorgeous artstyle is fluid and playful making even giant muck monsters charming. Have a Nice Death will be in Early Access in 2022.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax to PC

Persona fans are in for a surprise with this major announcement. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is coming to new platforms. This fighting game is a sequel to the original Persona 4. It will coming March 17th to PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

In case you were already sick of so much big news coming out of The Game Awards that's the pre-show wrapping up and we're now up to the big show… starting off with a musical performance by Sting performing his song "What Could Have Been" from Arcane, the new League of Legends TV show on Netflix. Hellblade II: Senua's Saga Gameplay Trailer

After a few years since its original announcement we finally got to see a new trailer, rendered in real time, from Ninja Theory's Hellblade 2. This trailer shows a bleak shoreline with a few humans exploring. Closing in on a cave you hear the voices that Senua hears, cheering her on or warning her about continuing. 

This incredibly cinematic trailer highlights the light, particle effects, and water effects. A colossal and deformed giant is shown, the humans preparing to attack. All at once the humans launch their coordinated attack, the tables immediately turning as the giant crashes among them. The next sequence shows the lengths that the humans have to go to to try to stop these giants that they seem to be warring with.

Star Wars: Eclipse Revealed from Quanitc Dream

The next trailer from Lucasfilm Games shows an eclipse in progress and a ring of space debris. We see clips of the Jedi temples, populated cities, Jedi doing battle, and a number of recognizable Star Wars worlds. Space battles wage out as tribal drums play introducing this game as Star Wars Eclipse. This new game is coming from french studio Quantic Dream. This game will be set in the High Republic age of Star Wars.

Wonder Woman from Monolith Revealed

Another world premier trailer from Warner Bros games shows a Wonder Woman video game. Themyscira is in trouble as Wonder Woman is called back to the home of the Amazons. This game is coming from Monolith. Unfortunately this brief teaser didn't show any gameplay or give any release information so we'll just have to keep waiting.

Alan Wake II Announced

Moving away from the positivity of Wonder Woman we next find ourselves among crime scene tape, heavy rain, and a depressing voice over. In this brief trailer we see the return of Alan Wake which will be coming in 2023. Talking about it further this will be a Survival Horror game, the first that Remedy has made. They believe that this will be the best genre to combine the psychological layers of the story with tense gameplay. We'll be hearing more information about Alan Wake II in Summer 2022.

New Look at Horizon Forbidden West

From Guerilla games the next trailer is for Aloy's next adventure in Horizon Forbidden West. Some of the new things we see across this trailer is Aloy skipping through beach settings, dense forests, through the sky, and in winter tundras. Accompanying these different regions we also get to see the diversity of the enemies you'll face in this adventure and some of Aloy's new outfits. To wrap up the trailer the screen moved away to reveal a full orchestra playing one of the tracks from the upcoming game.

 

Final Fantasy VII Remake Coming to PC via Epic Games Store

The next big announcement for the Epic Game Store is the PC release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This trailer shows off Cloud and the rest of Avalanche on the first part of their new adventures through Midgar. This version will also include the episode with Yuffie that was released for PS5. You can play this on PC December 16th.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

The next story trailer gives more information about the upcoming expansion, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. This expansion will have players face up against Savanthun exploring her palace. The trailer shows a new knight enemy that uses his own Ghost to revive, a challenge that I'm sure many Destiny 2 fans are looking forward to facing.

Slitterhead from the Silent Hill Creator Revealed

The next trailer from Keiichiro Toyama, creator of Silent Hill, new studio Bokeh was up next. This trailer shows a series of murders by strange bone/buglike creatures and a man wielding a blood sword trying to kill them. This new game is called Slitterhead.

Nightingale New Game from Aaryn Flynn Revealed

The next new trailer shows a woman meeting a vampire like creature in a forest only to be interrupted by an even larger creature. Lost in this strange new world the player will be tasked with exploring the lands of fey trying to travel through portals and find a way home. Each world visited shows completely different environments from lush jungles to expansive deserts. Each location is filled with its own assortment of strange and wonderful creatures like giants or tree people. Nightingale's trailer ends with a collection of Realmwalkers appearing from a portal.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum Showed Off

A new trailer for Lord of the Rings: Gollum is the next to be shown. In this new trailer we get to see how Gollum struggles between his two personalities while also taking on a number of Orcs. When he doesn't quite stop a helmet falling he attracts some unwanted attention.

New Content and Graphics coming to PUBG

While rumors were circling earlier today the new trailer for PUBG shows off new graphics, new map, and that the classic Battle Royale will be going Free to Play on January 12th.

Somerville

In another story of a developer who wanted to showcase their creation on the game awards stage the next trailer, we got shows a broken future. In a world filled with destruction and strange robotic animals, this trailer for Somerville leaves a lot of questions in viewers' minds. We'll have to wait to see more of that game from Jumpship.

Cuphead DLC Release Date Announced

Following a live musical performance about Cuphead and his friends, we got news about the Cuphead DLC The Delicious Last Course from Studio MDHR. Players will be able to travel to D.L.C. Island. Here is a whole new world of new boss battles including a Yeti, an icy witch, and an evil sheriff cow. This DLC will come out June 30th 2022 to all platforms that the base game is available on.

Sonic Frontiers Coming Holiday 2022

Sonic is back after his trailer, time to see what his new game will look like. We join the blue blur running through the forest away from flying robots. These robots manage to catch sonic and take him to a brand new world. This vast open expanse shows that there will be a lot for Sonic to do in this new world. This game will release Holiday 2022. Before the trailer ends we get a tease of an immensely large robot trying to crush him.

Warrior Priest Coming to Vermintide II Today

After a few more award announcements a new trailer is shown for Warhammer: Vermintide II. We see a devout praying for strength and for the ability to fight in upcoming battles. This long prayer is intertwined with gameplay footage showing a variety of classes taking on a number of enemies. The trailer ends as the two sides clash. The Warrior Priest is available now on PC and Xbox and will be coming in January to PlayStation 4.

Tchia

To show off some new alpha footage we see upcoming PlayStation title Tchia. In this we see a girl arriving on an island via raft and getting ready to explore. Use lanterns to blow up cracked rocks and glide around. Featuring the ability to possess animals and a crafting system surprise your enemies with all kinds of strange creations. Tchia is coming in Spring 2022.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gameplay Shown

Suicide Squad is next up on center stage as Keighley announces a gameplay reveal. Amanda Waller takes to the stage to shut him down before he can reveal the "classified intel." Waller threatens the crowd to keep their lips shut, while streaming to millions, and then we got to see the trailer. The trailer shows Captain Boomerang jeering the Flash confirming that the Justice League is under control of Braniac.

In this trailer we see Harley with a grapple, Deadshot on a jetpack, and King Shark climbing up walls with his pure strength. Each character seems to have their own mix of enhanced movement, melee weapons, and ranged approaches to combat allowing for free movement around the city. It wouldn't be a Suicide Squad trailer without King Shark eating someones head off too…

More Forspoken Shown Off

After a brief introduction from cast members we got to see a new trailer for Forspoken. In this new story trailer we see the main characters first arrival to this new world of magic and monsters. We see a variety of abilities and enhanced movement from the main character. Turning invisible for stealth, or riding on a magical surfboard to cross bodies of water. Forspoken will release on PS5 and PC May 22nd 2022.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine II Announced

From Saber Interactive we launch right into the next trailer. This trailer for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine II shows frontline troops getting gunned down in battle only to be rescued by a group of Space Marines. After quickly dispatching the previously overbearing enemies with displays of excellent swordplay and marksmanship this group heads further into the fray. This title will be a third-person action game putting players right in the center of the action.

Saints Row Reboot Gameplay

Deep Silver and Volition give us our next taste of the rebooted Saints Row franchise. Known for its over the top action and character we're introduced to a number of wild gangs that will inhabit the world. In this game, the Saints will be establishing themselves as a new gang that's not to be messed with. Sporting their classic purple threads you'll be making your mark in the skies, on the ground, or over water.

Nightmare Before Christmas Comes to Fall Guys

From the party game that doesn't stop new outfits have been announced from a variety of characters from the Nightmare Before Christmas movies. These include the Mayor and the Pumpkin King Jack Skellington himself. These will be available December 16th. Not to be outdone a variety of costumed from games including Bomberman, Shovel Knight, Nier, Cuphead, and more are also shown off.

Dune: Spice Wars

In a surprise to everyone a trailer for a 4X Dune game called Dune: Spice Wars. In this game you can play as one of the many factions that fight for the desert planet. Read more about it here.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Story Trailer

Ashley Burch and Will Arnett take to the stage to riff about their roles in the upcoming Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. Will Arnett will play the role of the villain in this adventure, though he might say he's a job maker in this made up world of Bunkers and Badasses. A new trailer for this game shows a variety of new characters as well as a number of wild enemies like skeletons, dragons, and necromancers. It wouldn't be Borderlands if the game wasn't filled with all kinds of jokes and strange references too.

Among Us VR Teased

After being such a large part of social gaming for 2020 and 2021 it seems that Among Us is continuing to be a big part of gaming with Among Us VR coming to PlayStation VR, Meta Quest 2, and Steam.

Steelrising

A new trailer shows off a world of clockwork monsters. Automata wield clocks and metal fans while taking on a variety of mechanical beasts. This new game is Steelrising coming from Spiders. No release date or window is shown for this game.

Metal: Hellsinger

Continuing the trend we've seen recently of hell and rock music we see gameplay of first person shooter combat. In time with the music we see beats moving towards the reticle showing that to do damage in this game you need to play to the beat.

Star Trek: Resurgence

From the creators of some of telltales' largest games the next adventure that you'll be able to partake in is from the stories of space… the final frontier. Make game-altering decisions as you explore the galaxy in Star Trek Resurgence coming Spring 2022.

Rumbleverse Announced

From Epic Games a new trailer is shown with Iron Galaxy. This trailer, set up like an old school Saturday morning special, introduces mankind and their history of violence. We then see a variety of strange characters dropping into a cityscape beating the crap out of each other. Rumbleverse is a new Battle Royale title ready to fight for its share of the market. You can sign up for early access right now. There will be a gameplay event tomorrow.

A Plague Tale: Requiem New Trailer

In a harsh transition from the bright and colorful world of Rumbleverse we're brought down to a bleak reality of a plague-infected world in A Plague Tale: Requiem. This trailer shows a variety of settings that the new game will take place in, as well as a mysterious man chained up in a cave.

Dying Light 2

As we get closer and closer to the release of Dying Light 2 we get a new trailer of the parkour zombie game. In this trailer we follow a series of characters trying to stay safe and get away from the raging hordes. Some are saved, and some are left to die. It seems a new weapon that you'll be relying on a lot is anti-zombie UV lights.

CrossfireX Release Date Announced

A new trailer for tactical shooter CrossfireX is next on the block. Experience jumping out of airplanes, high speed car chases, and making your way through a variety of chaos fueled battlegrounds. While not much other than action is revealed in this trailer the action that's there is pretty awe inspiring. CrossfireX will release on February 10th.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt 

Bloodhunt, the Battle Royale in the setting of World of Darkness, was next to get a trailer. Showing off slow stealthy gameplay mixed with fast paced, supernatural fighting this game is an interesting take on the Battle Royale genre. This game will release in Spring 2022 for PlayStation 5 and PC.

GTFO 1.0 Is Out Now

10 Chambers is next on the stage to talk about a special announcement for their game. After being in early access for so long GTFO 1.0 has been announced. Right now GTFO 1.0 is now available and with that a 25% off for new purchases. This game, known for its intense horror as well as difficulty, has been entertaining players in early access for two years where it was first announced at The Game Awards. In a new trailer for the 1.0 release we get to see all kinds of strange monsters and eerie locations that you'll come across as you explore this game.

Elden Ring Story Trailer

The next trailer shown details more of the glorious FromSoftware world of Elden Ring. After the brief closed beta test now more than ever people are looking forward to getting their hands on this highly anticipated title. This new story trailer talks of the bleak state of the world with demigods falling and the rest of the world falling to chaos. The titular Elden Ring is apparently broken; the culprit is unknown though. 

Arc Raiders Announced

From Embark and Exxon a new trailer is shown taking place in a futuristic derelict world. After getting a warning and launching to the world the gameplay shown is of a number of player characters fighting off a number of different drones and androids. Of course a game with robots isn't complete without a large spider robot either so enjoy that. We see players coordinating with one another to survive. This new game is called Arc Raiders and will be coming in 2022.

And with that, The Game Awards are wrapped up. With plenty of announcements being made we saw updates on games we're looking forward to, games that are out that we're getting updates for, and even some surprises along the way.
