Battlestate Games has released Escape from Tarkov patch 0.16.0.0, and it brings a brand new festive-themed event for you to enjoy, plus a new status effect and plenty more (not to mention a wipe).
As was the case with previous Escape from Tarkov patches, there's a lot to unpack in this one. Perhaps the main event, however, is the new Khorovod game mode, which features "a festive atmosphere, unique mechanics, and a variety of challenges" for you to take on.
Your objectives in this mode will be to locate and refuel a generator, then protect said generator for five minutes while it fires up. Once that's done, you'll then need to light a Christmas tree, which will allow you to unlock transit to the next area.
If you're not in the holiday mood, there's plenty else to enjoy in this patch. A new Frostbite status effect has been added, for instance, reducing your visibility and stamina when you're afflicted with it. You can drink alcohol, stand near burning barrels, or spend time in shelters to get rid of it.
That status effect comes complete with adjustments to the winter season's "visual and atmospheric elements", including better visual effects, snowdrifts for extra "variety", and "unique winter sound design" for all game locations.
If you've already reached Escape from Tarkov's endgame, you'll be pleased to know this update brings a new Prestige system that lets you "start your exploration of Tarkov anew", allowing you to continue progressing even if you've hit a wall.
There's lots more to enjoy in this patch, including new weapons, adjustments to gameplay mechanics, and much more. If you want to see everything that's new, you can check out the full Escape from Tarkov patch notes right here.
This is a major Escape from Tarkov patch, so you know what that means: it comes complete with a wipe. Be prepared to start afresh as soon as this update has been applied.
As well as patch 0.16.0.0 for the main game, competitive shooter spinoff Escape from Tarkov: Arena has also received a new update.
Patch 0.2.5.0 brings its own Christmas-themed event to the game, as well as a change of seasons and plenty of balance changes. The patch notes for that update are right here.
