Famed creator of classic step-platformer Another World, Eric Chahi, has announced the first title from his new indie studio Pixel Reef. Paper Beast is a PSVR title set in a realistic ecosystem inhabited by 100's of papercraft animals. The game features unlimited freedom to explore and discover and is built upon layer after layer of complex simulations of everything from terrain physics to realistic animal locomotion. The game was built entirely using the Unity Engine and features an unprecedented level of detailed simulation to present a cohesive, realistic world.
Though Paper Beast features a narrative it is all told non-directly through the environments and is set in a world which has sprouted out of the remnants of what was once the internet. The events, the animals and the pacing will all go together to tell a story completely devoid of both text and dialogue just like Another World. The VR game will also use motion controls to their full extent, allowing players to reach out and touch things in the environment and combining with simulators to have the environment react realistically.
The sound has also been a heavy focus of development as Chahi points out that the developers are aiming at the most immersive experience possible. A team of professional sound designers have been working full time to produce a binaural experience which will make players believe that they have actually be transported to an alien world. The game is expected for a release at some point during 2019 exclusively on PS4 with PSVR and PlayStation Move. You can check out the brand new reveal trailer down below.
