Epic No Longer Displaying Target Dates For Epic Game Store Features

Epic has announced that they'll be changing what their Trello roadmap displays. Specifically, the categories have been changed so they no longer display exact times or time frames for epic game store features to show up.

For those out of the loop, Epic launched the Epic Game Store in December of 2018. In addition to this, they used a Trello board to help give some transparency on what they were working on and when it would be done. Unfortunately, deadlines in software development are notoriously fluid, and many of the original deadlines have either been delayed or missed entirely.

In response to this, Epic has chosen to revamp their how their Trello roadmap displays information. Updates are now spread into three categories: "Recently Shipped" "Up Next" and "Future Development." For example, mod support and player time tracking are now both in the "Up Next" section, showing that Epic is currently working on them without giving a specific date as to when they'll be done. Other features, such as the oft-requested shopping cart, are in "Future Development" showing that Epic is planning them down the road.

So why make this change? In a blog post, Epic was saying that the Trello was failing to achieve its purpose of providing visibility into the development cycle. Their exact quote on the matter is as follows:

The Trello roadmap is not fulfilling the goal we set when it was introduced. The goal with the Trello roadmap is to provide visibility into the development cycle for the store’s more player-centric feature set. While it’s accomplished that to some degree, we’ve missed the mark accurately displaying the timelines for feature delivery. We regularly delay feature releases due to shifting priorities and the need for further iteration. We’re always focusing on improving, and we believe the Trello can be improved as well.
In addition, they note that they'll be updating the Trello every two weeks, so you can get an idea of what's been worked on and what's been fixed in that timeframe.

How do you feel about this change? Think it'll go over as hoped? What Epic Game Store Features do you want soonest? Let us know in the comments below.
