Elite Dangerous Horizons

Elite Dangerous: Horizons, the second season of expansions for Frontier's Elite Dangerous game, will be coming to Xbox One in June.

Elite Dangerous' post-launch content is split into "Seasons". Each Season contains multiple expansions of the game, and Elite Dangerous: Horizons is the second such season for the game.

The second Season of Elite Dangerous expansions contains five parts. The Planetary Landings expansion allows players to take to atmospheric flight and deploy certain vehicles on the planet's surface. Planetary Landings is already live on the PC version of the game.

The remainder of Elite Dangerous: Horizons will have a variety of features. The Engineers expansion is set to revamp missions and provide additional loot and crafting options for the player's ships. A major feature of the third expansion will let multiple people to crew the same ship. The fourth expansion will include the ability for players to customize the appearance of their in-game avatars, and the last expansion will add short-range fighter craft to the larger ships available in the game.

Players of Elite Dangerous will still receive constant bug fixes and gameplay updates regardless of whether or not they've purchased either the first or second Season. Frontier plans to have all future content deployed simultaneously for both platforms once the Xbox One version of the game has finished catching up to the PC Version.

Elite Dangerous is a remake of the space-trading game Elite that was originally published on the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron computers. Both games share an open-ended gameplay style where players are free to fly anywhere they like in a massive galaxy. While the original game contained a bit over 2,000 planets, Elite Dangerous has over 400 Billion Star Systems in a recreated Milky Way Galaxy.

You can pick up Elite Dangerous for PC via Steam.

Quick Take

I haven't really followed Elite Dangerous because it looks like the sort of game that I would get sucked into pretty badly. Still, I follow the title and Star Citizen somewhat casually. It's interesting to see that a lot of features in the Elite Dangerous: Horizons season will be matching features available in Star Citizen. I think it's great - competition breeds innovation.

What do you think of the new content that's coming in Elite Dangerous: Horizons? Do you think the game can be fun on a console, or do you think it's best to play Elite Dangerous on the PC? Let us know in the comments below!
