Piranha Bytes has officially announced Elex 2. The sequel to 2017's sci-fi action-RPG is coming to PC and consoles at an unspecified date, and will take place several years after the events of the original game.
What can we expect from Elex 2?
Elex 2 will return to the post-apocalyptic sci-fi world of Magalan. Several years after the events of the first Elex, new factions have appeared in the wake of old ones, and the land is on its way to being terraformed. The sequel will once again star protagonist Jax, who must face a new threat brandishing the powers of "dark Elex". In order to do so, Jax must convince Magalan's disparate factions to stand with him against this new threat, but there's also a personal element to his quest; his son, Dex, has been separated from him, and so Jax must discover Dex's whereabouts. You can check out the announcement trailer for Elex 2 below.
The second Elex game will retain its predecessor's sense of freedom; you'll be able to use your jetpack to fly around and explore the environments of Magalan at your leisure. Piranha Bytes says you can move through the story "any way you want", although it's not clear exactly what that means just yet. Elex 2 will also feature unique NPCs who will remember your actions and join or leave you depending on what you do. NPCs can also be killed, which will affect the story in various ways. The devs are also promising a "massively improved combat system" for both melee and ranged combat, as well as a story full of choices, consequences, and moral decisions.
We don't yet know when Elex 2 is coming out, although they do say coming soon. Publisher THQ Nordic says there is "no official release date yet". When the game does arrive, it'll come to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. You can wishlist Elex 2 right now on Steam. We'll bring you more on this one as soon as we get it.
