After being in closed beta for the past few months, Bethesda has opened up the Elder Scrolls Legends Beta on PC to everyone. Announced during this year's QuakeCon, that the free-to-play strategy card game would be open for all to play. Players wishing to play the beta can do so through the Bethesda.net launcher.
First announced at E3 this year, it would seem Bethesda wish to challenge Blizzard and enter the same space as Hearthstone. Only time will tell if it actually has a chance against the immensely popular CCG. Perhaps Bethesda hopes that their own lore will be a good selling point to fans of The Elder Scrolls games.
Elder Scrolls Legends has you play with a 50 card minimum deck where you will face off against an opponent's deck to try and best them. Those familiar with The Elder Scrolls games will already know the races from the other games that are included in Legends. Though this game will allow players to see them in a different genre. The official website for the game gives advice with deck building tips. Ranging from an Introduction to Deck Building to Advanced Deck Building Tips.
It's clear that Legends takes a lot from Hearthstone but that doesn't mean the game won't be able to find its own identity. One of the things it does do differently than Hearthstone is have a focus on a story mode. Whether or not Elder Scrolls Legends will be able to stand out and differentiate itself in a sea of card battling games post Hearthstone, we can only see.
When The Elder Scrolls Legends is complete, it is planned to be released on PC, Mac, Android and IOS. There is still no release date yet, though it is expected to come out sometime next year.
