During our time at EGX Rezzed 2016, myself and Alex Baldwin were able to meet up with Paul Kilduff-Taylor, the Co-founder of Mode7 Games. You may know of this development team as the creators of games such as Frozen Synapse and Frozen Cortex.
Paul Taylor and Ian Hardingham founded the UK based studio back in 2005 and released the award-winning Frozen Synapse in 2011, but for those who don't know about the aforementioned game, Frozen Synapse is a turn-based tactics game in which the player plans their movements at their own pace and each turn is then resolved simultaneously. Players will be put up against challenging enemy units with the goal being that their squad of armed troopers take them out.
The game had an interesting setting, as it was based in a dystopian future, where a corporate government regime has used their powers to manipulate the population but with a resistance faction slowly coming out of the shadows, its up to you to command and assist them through their struggles to overpower the regime. As mentioned before, Frozen Synapse was able to obtain an award, the Audience Award from the Independent Games Festival 2012.
The sequel Frozen Synapse 2 is currently well into development and is slated for a release date of sometime this year. A lot has been added into the sequel, but it's clear that the main gameplay mechanics are still in place. If you wish to know more about the game then, why don't you have a look at our interview?:
