This comes in the wake of EGX 2015 holding a Capcom Cup qualifiers tournament as part of the Capcom Pro Tour where players from around Europe came to gain CPT points in order to qualify for the Capcom Cup. With the the success of that event, Capcom has upgraded the event to a Capcom Pro Tour Premier event with a $15,000 prize pool with $7,000 being awarded to the winner of the tournament. Being a premier CPT event, the winner of the event will be guaranteed a place in Capcom Cup 2016.
Tickets for EGX 2016 are available now to purchase, details about how to compete will be revealed later this year.
With Street Fighter V almost here it has been interesting to see Capcom's interaction with the Street Fighter fanbase, with multiple open betas, holding a worldwide Street Fighter competition for the last 2 years. They've done this while also seemingly doing away with their old business model and instead allowing a one time game purchase with free balance updates. Whether Capcom can stick the landing and deliver a suitably stellar release product in Street Fighter V is something we will be finding out in the near future.
