Nintendo NX preorder

With the news of Nintendo's upcoming Nintendo NX scheduled for release on March next year, EB Games Australia has now listed a placeholder price for the upcoming console.

Listed for a placeholder price of $999 Aus (£520 / $760 US / 667 Euros), consumers can now secure a place for Nintendo's 9th console iteration. While it's obvious that the current price listing won't be final one for launch, in accordance to Nintendo Life, consumers will need to make a minimum $100 deposit in order secure a order.

While false controller rumors and leaked patents have certainly made their way around the web, it is worth noting that no official information has been released regarding the upcoming console. Even on the official EB Games store page, the description asks for consumers to "stay tuned" as they further release information (hopefully) later on in the year.

Alongside the Nintendo NX, The Legend of Zelda WiiU has also been confirmed a placeholder price of $119.95 ( £62.45 / $91.24 US / 79.71 Euros) from EB Games Australia. The Legend of Zelda WiiU is said to launch on both the WiiU and NX upon the console launch.

Quick Take

Regardless of it being a placeholder price, surely someone at EB or Nintendo knew that placing a $999 price tag was going to be a dumb move on their part. The last time I saw a console listed close to the thousand dollar mark was back in 2007 when the first PlayStation 3 models were released. With an insane price range and a competitive disadvantage between the Wii and Xbox 360, as you can guess Sony had a rocky start to the seventh console generation, and it was only later when they introduced the newer models lower that they saw some profit.

Hopefully as we progress throughout the year, Nintendo can not only provides a more realistic price range, but also list off a strong launch lineup to help bolster the sales for this upcoming machine.

What are your thoughts on this? You would consider forking over a $999 placeholder for a console you know nothing about? Let us know in the comments below!
