The latest title in the EDF series, EDF5 allows players to take up arms to once again defend Earth against a hostile alien invasion. Apart from the signature hordes of alien insect invaders, this new installment in the cult following franchise also introduces an original new humanoid species of hyper-intelligent aliens from the mysterious planet Primer. You will join the elite ranks of the EDF for an all-out war to save Earth and triumph over the depths of despair of a world under siege through courage and camaraderie. EDF5 includes over 100 new missions with five difficulty settings and over one thousand usable weapons. Players can enjoy the game in a two-player co-op in split-screen mode, or in online co-op with up to four players.

The original trailer began with Beethoven's 5th Symphony and set the scene in the year 2022. It's the "day of fate" when humans make "contact with the unknown." As peace and livelihood are "ravaged in terror," the game asks you whether humanity is destined for destruction. An emergency alert is called and the giant alien bug killing spree begins in a frenetic onslaught. It's the pinnacle of mindless slaughter with mechs and jetpacks included. It looks like the most senseless fun. It should appeal to both seasoned EDF veterans and newcomers to the series.

Right now there's only a placeholder date set on the PlayStation Store but it will be released in 2018.
