EDF! EDF! EDF! Earth Defense Force is a series about fighting giant waves of even larger bugs (and UFOs, alien mechs, and what-have-you). If you can't tell from that description, the series is very goofy and comes across like you're playing a very cheesy sci-fi B-movie.
Last year publisher XSEED Games released both Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair and Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders from Planet Space on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita respectively. Both of these titles themselves were enhanced ports of earlier titles in the series - Earth Defense Force 2025 and Earth Defense Force 2. Earlier this year with SteamDB's leak it seemed likely that the former title - EDF4.1 - would come to Steam eventually, though it's only just now that we've got our confirmation. D3 Publisher revealed the news on twitter.
Some more details regarding the port (and D3 Publisher's continued support for PC) come from EDF4.1's Steam Community page. The title will release at $49.99 with a 30% off discount on launch. DLC will be separated the same way as it is on PS4, with an eventually planned DLC bundle. Mod support, a purchasable 4-pack of the title, and more "will take time" as this is the first time the company has released an Earth Defense Force title on PC. The company is already considering PC ports of other Earth Defense Force Titles if EDF4.1 is "a huge hit on Steam".
On the other hand, they're open to taking requests for other, non-EDF titles to receive the PC port treatment as well. The publisher shared an email address that fans can send any of their requests for PC ports to when a fan asked for a way to share their requests with the company on the Steam Community forums. Fans can send their requests to steam_support@d3p.co.jp.
