It's been a long time since we've seen a Skate sequel: over 12 years ago when Skate 3 was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Skate 4 isn't coming anytime soon, but enterprising users are now playing a leaked early Skate 4 playtest, which is ironic considering details about the current Skate 4 playtest has leaked as well. I guess people really want to play a new Skate game, eh? Shocking, I know.
The leaked Skate 4 playtest has quickly attracted the attention of EA, who obviously aren't too thrilled about this. They quickly released a statement, stating that the build currently making the rounds online is from September 2021 and was never intended to be played by the public. While EA can't really do anything if fans want to download the latest Skate's leaked build, they are asking fans to be careful "when downloading files from unknown sources" while also reminding users of their terms of service if their somehow caught in the act.
Instead of potentially catching a virus from a sketchy site, EA encourages players to wait for the playtest, which will be adding players throughout the year. If you're fine with waiting to play the newest Skate title, be sure to sign up for the closed playtest here.
Quick Take:
While it makes sense that fans are extremely excited to play the new Skate title, it also makes sense that EA is warning fans off from playing the leaked build. The latest build is still apparently pretty rough, so a build from September 2021 is probably a chore to play. There's plenty of skateboarding games out there nowadays-including the excellent Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake-so instead of potentially catching a virus you should probably just play that instead while you wait.
