In a new line of EA Originals titles, former Director of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Josef Fares, announced the first title from his new studio Hazelight Studios is called A Way Out.
The game features two men named Leo and Vincent, who are controlled by two players that have to help them break out of prison to take care of unfinished business. What makes the experience unique is that it can only be played in co-op either locally or online. Two perspectives are almost always present at once, with both players alternating between playing and watching cutscenes of their respective characters. This means that, much like Brothers, you can expect a lot of emphasis on teamwork. Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of EA Worldwide Studios, spoke of his high expectations for it given Fares' past work.
Josef and his team at Hazelight represent everything that EA Originals stands for. They are a small and very talented group with a vision and passion for a game that is truly unique in the video game industry. A Way Out is going to surprise people with its innovative co-op gameplay and the way it tells an emotional story solely through these two characters. With a noir, cinematic vibe, A Way Out looks to be an emotional and narrative-heavy that calls to mind Nathan and Sam's antics in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, especially with multiple sections showcasing some melee combat and extensive platforming. With such a purposeful direction to structure the experience around split-screen as well, it might just innovate how we experience co-op. You can look forward to playing it in early 2018 as a digital download on Origin, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. For more updates and information, you can check out the official website here.
