Electronic Arts has recently confirmed that NBA Live 20 will be spending a little bit longer than normal in the oven this time around. Pushing the release date for later this year, sometime in the third fiscal quarter (October through the end of December).  This push back is being utilized due to some changes that EA has planned for NBA Live 20. An EA representative told Polygon, "We're planning a different approach to NBA Live this year, and will have more to share in the quarter ahead."

The push back was unceremoniously found within the latest financial report that EA has released on July 30. In the report on a slide alongside the earnings statement, NBA Live 20 was listed as part of EA's third fiscal quarter offerings planned. No official announcement seems to have been made and the NBA Live Twitter account has still made no mention of the delay at the time of writing. This delay means that NBA Live 20 will be coming out well after the start of the NBA season, whereas normally basketball games come out a little before the season begins. This means that NBA 2K20 will be the only big basketball video game releasing around the NBA season start to ride the wave of renewed excitement all things NBA.

EA has not said much about what types of changes they are looking to make for NBA Live 20 to follow through on their "new approach" and the fact that they will be forcing the game to compete with other Q3/Holiday titles does not bode too well for the potential sales numbers. On the other hand, the changes could be significant enough that pushing the release date may be necessary and could be some kind of reboot for the series that will breathe new life into it after NBA 2K19 sold as well as it did last year against it.
