During the craziness that was E3 2015, TechRaptor's Tanis Pallagi got to sit down and talk with one of the developers at Focus Home Interactive about Mordheim: City of the Damned. Based on the Games Workshop turn-based board game of the same title, Mordheim is currently in Early Access on Steam with a full release expected later this year/early next.  In this interview we learned about how difficult it is to work within a well-established universe like Warhammer, how the Early Access program has helped with development and how the fans of the game have been -and remain- a large part of the entire process of creating Mordheim: City of the Damned.

More on Mordheim

Mordheim is set around 500 years before the Warhammer fantasy time line. Set in a period of chaos and civil war in the Empire after a comet struck the city of Mordheim, destroying it and scattering a game called Wyrdstone throughout the ruins. Mercenary warbands from all over the world battle one another in order to claim the Wyrdstone as their own. Despite the original being discontinued in 2004, fans have kept the game going with their own custom campaigns, rulesets, etc.

The board game plays much like Warhammer does in it's skirmish scale but also features a campaign system. Warbands will gain experience as the campaign progresses, similarly to how characters will advance in RPGs. The video game version of the game looks to recreate this feature as well as the others in the game with some tweaks to make it more enjoyable to play in a digital format, such as each player moving one character at a time rather than having to wait for a player to move their entire team in a turn.

What do you think about Mordheim: City of the Damned? Does this look like a game you are interested in trying out?
