Two new trailers have been released for the upcoming Sega title, Sonic Boom. There is a Wii U and a 3DS trailer showing off some similarities as well as some large differences between the two versions.

The story revealed seems to be that an ancient snake/lizard/robot has awakened again and chosen Sonic to be his archenemy. Sonic needs to get together all of his friends like Tails, Knuckles and of course Amy Rose to help fight against the army of robots coming their way. Gameplay in the Wii U version is very similar to past Sonic next-gen releases featuring fast paced platforming but new combat mechanics seem to have been added. Sonic has his regular homing show, Tails fires projectiles, Knuckles can dig underground and Amy has her trusty hammer. Also shown is some sort of grappling hook power that allows characters to pull or swing on objects.

The 3DS version shows the same combat elements but seems to be strictly a side scroller instead of a 3D platformer like on it's big brother console.

The Wii U version will also be built on the CryEngine making this the first use of it on the Wii U.
