New details have been revealed about the Dying Light 2 Skills Tree -- it's going to be split into a "Combat" tree and a "Parkour" tree that will level up as you fight enemies and move through the world.

We're less than a month away from the launch of Dying Light 2. Although we've had to suffer through disappointments such as several delays and a lack of romance options, the gameplay is looking pretty solid overall. Now, we've learned about how the skill system will work in this upcoming first-person shooter.

How Dying Light 2 Skills Work

Dying Light 2 skills are going to be split into two separate trees: a "Combat" tree and a "Parkour" tree, each of which will have its own distinct experience bar. You can increase the Combat XP bar by fighting enemies and you can increase the Parkour XP bar by performing parkour moves such as "climbing, jumping, or vaulting." More complex moves and combos will award greater amounts of experience.

Techland didn't just show off the look of the full skill tree, it also detailed some specific skills in each of the respective trees.

Dying Light 2 Combat Skills Preview

  • Block Charge - When blocking, charge at an enemy in front of you and knock them to the ground.
  • Perfect Parry - Parry at the last moment to stagger enemy.
  • Ground Pound - Perform a powerful attack while in mid-air.

Dying Light 2 Parkour Skills Preview

  • Far Jump - Use any obstacle to spring from it and jump further.
  • Bash - Bash through obstacles and enemies without stopping.
  • Tic Tac - Run alongside horizontal surfaces.

While you'll almost certainly have to fight, some of the Parkour options we've seen are appealing. The Bash skill, for example, shows the player charging through hordes of enemies and obstacles, preventing the need to actually engage in combat with anyone who might stop you.

There are roughly two dozen skills available for either tree, so it looks like there will be a lot of options available for players looking to make the most of their Dying Light 2 skills. You'll be able to play this game when it launches on February 4, 2022; you can pre-purchase Dying Light 2 for PC and consoles starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.

What do you think of the Dying Light 2 skills shown off today? Would you prefer to fight enemies or run past them? Let us know in the comments below!
