The Dune: Spice Wars multiplayer update has just been released, which means that players will be able to take control of the Atreides, Harkonnen, Fremen, or Smugglers factions in the new 2v2 or free-for-all modes. This is the first major milestone of the Early Access roadmap released about a month ago, which means the new playable faction, heroes, and the air & sand update are still coming. Let's take a closer look at the Dune: Spice Wars multiplayer update though, shall we?

What else is in the Dune: Spice Wars multiplayer update?

In the newly-added 2v2 and free-for-all modes, the playable spots can be filled by AI-controlled factions ranging in difficulty from easy to insane. Each game can be tailored to how players want it, which includes "map size and sandworm, storm, and Sietch activity." Victory conditions are also up to the players, which is nice because straight up destroying each other's base can get old after a while.

Every development tree has also been reworked to focus on synergy between factions. This means new "political resolutions, events, regions," and other improvements have been added into the game. This ranges from new Underworld Headquarter buildings to a confirmation before attacking Sietch, and new building illustrations as well, because why not?

There's also a current issue that players should be aware of:

We currently have a problem with the shadercache (DirectX only), you’ll have to load all shaders again after the update (with maybe some freezes each time you discover a new shader),it is also possible that you’ll randomly have to load shaders again from time to time, we are very sorry and are working hard to fix that problem!

So, if you find yourself reloading shaders from time to time, it's an issue that Shiro Games knows about and is presumably working on. Don't let that keep you from making the spice flow.
