Bandai Namco has announced a release date for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions of the game will arrive on January 13th, and if you bought the original versions, you'll get the new ones as free upgrades (assuming you're playing on current-gen platforms, of course).
So, what's new in Kakarot if you're a current-gen console owner? According to Bandai Namco, the games will launch with speedier loading times (likely thanks to the consoles' SSDs), as well as "fluid gameplay up to 60FPS" and extra visual detail. It's not entirely clear whether "up to 60FPS" means the game will have performance and quality modes or simply a variable frame rate. Hopefully (and most likely), it'll be the former. This upgrade was announced last month, so it's nice to have a release date for it already.
As well as these current-gen upgrades, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's card game, Card Warriors, will be available to play offline as a single-player game in the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions of the game. There's no word on whether that change is also coming to the previous-gen versions, but it's safe to assume it isn't for now.
When it launches on current-gen platforms, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be available in three versions. The Standard version simply contains the base game, while the Deluxe Edition also bundles in a Deluxe Cooking item and the first Season Pass (which adds extra story content). Finally, there's the Legendary Edition, which bundles in all of the Deluxe Edition's content as well as an extra cooking item and a second Season Pass. That second pass contains the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC Bardock: Alone Against Fate, too.
You can buy Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot right now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It's coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on January 13th, but if you buy it now, you'll get an upgrade to those platforms for free in January.
