If you're excited for the revival of classic brawler series Double Dragon, then Modus and Secret Base have good news for you. Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons launches on July 27th for PC and consoles, so it won't be too long before you can get your hands (fists?) on this one.

Double Dragon Gaiden was first announced earlier this month. It brings back the classic Double Dragon series of side-scrolling beat-'em-ups, albeit with some modern innovations. The core gameplay - crossing a city to beat up ne'er-do-wells with your friend - is pretty much intact, but with extra roguelite elements and unlockable bonuses, Gaiden is attempting to bring Double Dragon into the current gaming era. You can take a look at the release date trailer here.

Double Dragon heroes Billy and Jimmy Lee (as opposed to Bimmy and Jimmy) will return for Gaiden, but they'll be joined by Marian, who's now wielding a firearm, and Uncle Matin, a new character who serves as a bulky tank with a riot shield. You can play as any combination of these characters as you clean up Double Dragon Gaiden's streets, and there are 9 more to unlock as you play, too.

As you play, mission difficulties will adjust themselves according to which missions you decide to take on, dynamically adjusting things like enemy numbers, mission length, and more. Each session will earn you tokens, which you can then use to unlock characters, gameplay tips, and other bonuses. You can also apply a range of modifiers to your session, including permadeath (if you really want it) and an infinite gameplay mode.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons launches on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch on July 27th. You can pre-order the game right now if you like. Stay tuned to TechRaptor for more retro gaming news.
