Domina game developer Dolphin Barn has made the unusual decision to put an anti-mask rant into the latest patch notes for its gladiator management simulator.

Domina is a "gladiator management simulator" that puts you in charge of a gladiator school in ancient Rome. Players will have to manage their gladiators and hopefully win favor from local politicians to boost their reputation, but you can't actually control the gladiators -- once they're in the arena, it's up to them to survive in an auto battler format.

The game has been out for nearly five years now and has been consistently receiving updates over that time. Dolphin Barn has released yet another update -- and this time, it has, for some reason, added an anti-mask message into the patch notes.

The Anti-Mask Message in the Domina Game Patch Notes

The latest Domina game patch notes have the kinds of things you'd usually expect: fixes, optimizations, and some balancing. However, it also included an anti-mask message as one of the bullet points.

  • TAKE OFF THE FCKN MASKS - Next time you're at the grocery store, try showing a woman your face. Be confident, unafraid of the LIES -- you might get a girlfriend. Women like confidence. Women don't like dudes who cover their faces in fear. What are you afraid of? Getting laid? Grow up.

The debate over wearing facial masks and mask mandates has been going on for several years during the coronavirus pandemic. One might wonder why this message is being inserted now amidst the lifting of mask mandates and vaccine mandates throughout many countries in the world. Based on their Steam profile, Dolphin Barn is a Canadian company; that country most recently had to contend with a weeks-long protest from Canadians over the mandates, that included organizations that wanted to replace the Canadian government before the occupation of parts of Ottawa was ended by police action following the implementation of the Emergency Measures Act.

Understandably, this messaging is attracting a mix of criticism and accolades in Steam reviews and discussions for the game. You can buy Domina for PC via Steam at the price of $9.99 or your regional equivalent, and you can learn more about the game on its official website.
