Ubisoft has announced The Division mobile game, a new spin-off called The Division Heartland, and The Division Netflix movie as several notable ways it is expanding this iconic Tom Clancy universe.

The Division 2 is one of many current games based on Tom Clancy's many novels and it's been doing pretty okay as far as online games go. That said, it's fair to say that things have been a little stagnant on new developments, especially with the long wait for new content in The Division 2. That's all changing today with the announcement of several projects centered on the franchise.

Ubisoft has laid out a pretty interesting roadmap for the future of The Division franchise.

The Division Mobile Game is One of Many Projects

The first of many new projects is The Division mobile game. Presumably, it will be made available on both Android and iOS, but we don't have any firm details on this new project just yet.

As it's not titled The Division 2, there's the possibility that this may be an entirely separate universe from the existing  games that are already out for PC and consoles. It wouldn't be all that unusual, especially as mobile games tend to have a different style of gameplay compared to PC and consoles.

Mind, current players of The Division 2 aren't being left out in the cold. As previously announced by Ubisoft, new content is in production for the current game in the franchise and players can expect to get new gameplay goodies in the coming months.

When is The Division Mobile Game Release Date?

Unfortunately, The Division mobile game release date has not yet been announced. Ubisoft will release more details at a later date.

The Division Heartland is a New Free-To-Play Game

Aside from The Division mobile game, one of the more surprising announcements is the new game The Division Heartland.

Developed by Red Storm studio, this will be a standalone game set in The Division universe that won't require any prior experience with The Division or The Division 2Heartland promises players "an [all-new] perspective on the universe in a new setting," but we don't know much more about the game beyond that. We'll likely get more details in the coming months.

When is The Division Heartland Release Date?

The Division Heartland release date will be sometime in 2021 or 2022. It will be available for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and unnamed cloud gaming services. Interested in playing this new game? You can sign up to playtest The Division Heartland for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on Ubisoft's website.

The Division Netflix movie slice

Tom Clancy Universe Expands with The Division Netflix Movie

As announced earlier this year, The Division Netflix movie is in production and will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (SkyscraperDodgeball: A True Underdog Story). This movie will star Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark ThirtyThe Martian) and Jake Gyllenhaal (NightcrawlerBrokeback Mountain).

Sadly, we don't know much more about the movie other than it will be taking place within the general setting of The Division; a team of highly-trained agents has been activated after a virus is spread throughout New York City and elsewhere via paper money, causing society to collapse entirely. As far as frameworks go, this provides a lot of potential for an interesting story, and I can say for certain that the director and actors have all been involved in some pretty intriguing projects over the years; there's a good chance that this movie can be pretty darn good.

Netflix seems like somewhat of a strange choice for The Division movie considering that there's already another Tom Clancy franchise on a competing service. If you have a hankering for some Tom Clancy cinematic action in the meantime, you can watch the first two seasons of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime right now; the series is free with an Amazon Prime membership.

When is The Division Netflix Movie Release Date?

Sadly, we don't yet know The Division Netflix movie release date. Film production typically takes 6 months at the minimum, so we might see it release sometime in 2021; that said, it's probably much more likely that it will arrive sometime in 2022.

And that's that! The Division mobile game, Heartland, and a Netflix movie all make for a pretty big expansion for the franchise, never mind all of the new The Division 2 content that's on the way. You can read about all of the fine details in today's announcement. If you'd like to get started with the latest game, you can buy The Division 2 for PC and consoles via its official website starting at $29.99 or your regional equivalent.
