Distrust begins when a helicopter crashes in the Arctic leaving a crew of explorers stranded near a base. On top of surviving the harsh Arctic conditions the explorers are also faced with a strange and terrifying force that sucks the life from their bodies as they sleep. Yet, going without sleep leaves the explorers exhausted and less likely to survive their harsh conditions.

To survive the group must manage their sleep schedule along with their sanity, trying to fend off fatigue and death. As the crew begins to go insane they can no longer trust their own senses or each other. Eventually the line between reality and hallucinations becomes so blurred players won’t be able to tell what’s real.

Alawar producer, Artem Bochkarev had this to say about the upcoming project,

Distrust is not your usual survival game. In addition to scavenging for food and equipment in a randomly generated map, players will have tons of quests, game events and plot twists to keep them coming back for more. Adding an even deeper psychological layer, character mutations caused by a lack of sleep can range from seemingly harmless, such as a survivor giggling uncontrollably or quoting Shakespeare, to dangerous, where the survivor may see his partner as a monster and try to kill him.
Featuring a randomly generated base, players will guide the survivors through a fight for survival over a severe climate and their own minds. The title is listed as releasing August 23, 2017 on Steam with the tags “strategy”, “violent” “adventure” and “survival”. You can give the single player game a try now if you like and see what it’s like for yourself.

Currently in open beta, a free limited demo of Distrust is available to download via Steam.
