Disintegration developer V1 Interactive is closing its doors for good after only five years — and just two months after it posted an optimistic message looking forward to the prospects of a new year.

V1 Interactive was founded in 2014 by one of the co-creators of Halo. Its first project was the first-person shooter game Disintegration. The game had a lot of hype behind it and rightfully so: this company's first project managed to create a pretty great sci-fi experience. Now, this game developer's journey is coming to an end.

Why is Disintegration Developer V1 Interactive Shutting Down?

Disintegration developer V1 Interactive has not given a specific reason for its closure. That said, it's likely due to the performance of its inaugural game; unfortunately, it failed to attract a strong audience.

The best demonstration of this case is the game's performance on Steam Charts — it hit an all-time peak of just 539 players. The low population in the multiplayer community ultimately resulted in V1 Interactive closing down the game's multiplayer servers for good in November of last year. The announcement was made in a tweet on the developer's official account, just over two months after it posted an optimistic message looking forward to the new year.

Company founder (and Halo veteran) Marcus Lehto posted a tweet today explaining the closure and why they're doing it now.

"At V1, our priority has been to the wellbeing of our employees," read a tweet from Marcus Lehto. "We’ve been transparent with them about the state of things for months and are making this decision now so they still have ample time to search for new jobs while being supported by our studio."

V1 Interactive was first founded in 2014 and located in Redmond, Washington. Today's announcement is certainly sad news for its 20 employees, but making this move early should help give them the opportunity to find new work in the industry as soon as possible.

"We want to thank all the talented people at V1, both past and present, who helped make the last 5 years wonderful," read the tweet from V1 Interactive announcing the studio's closure. "And a heartfelt thanks to the amazing community that supported us."
