The Dirt 5 Red Bull Revolution Update arrives tomorrow, featuring the debut of cross-platform matchmaking and the start of what looks like a worrying trend: sponsored updates.

Dirt 5 is, as you might expect, the latest entry in the Dirt franchise of racing games. It's been happily chugging along for some time now, occasionally launching new content and feature updates for players to enjoy. The next big update is on the way — and this one, believe it or not, appears to have been sponsored by Red Bull.

What's New in the Dirt 5 Red Bull Revolution Update?

The major addition in the Dirt 5 Red Bull Revolution Update is cross-platform matchmaking. Soon, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players will be able to play together in races as long as everyone in the party has the feature enabled. (Stadia players, unfortunately, are left out in the cold on this one, it seems.)

"Another key community request added to the game, this allows all public lobbies to connect players on different platforms together, further boosting online activity whenever you jump in," read today's announcement. "That means busy lobbies and more excitement in every event – whether that’s our traditional extreme racing, or our innovative party modes."

And now it's time for the elephant in the room: a bunch of special Red Bull content is being added to this game. (That should come as no surprise considering the name of the update.) A total of 8 Red Bull liveries are debuting for the following cars:

  • Audi S1 EKS RX quattro
  • MINI John Cooper Work Buggy by X-raid
  • Peugeot 3008 DKR Maxi
  • Volkswagen Race Touareg 3
  • Porsche 911 RGT
  • Peugeot 208 WRX (3 liveries)

Adding to the Red Bull content is the debut of the iconic "Red Bull arch," a fixture at many sponsored events. These are just some of the cool things that are on the way in this update; you can read the full Dirt 5 Red Bull Revolution Update for all the fine details.
