Update 4/20/22 - The release date has been confirmed for July 29th. You can view the video from producer Kazumasa Habu here.
After a long time since it was originally announced, it looks like we might finally have a Digimon Survive release date. A leak reveals that the game is due to arrive in July, which will mark four years since it was originally announced.
When is the Digimon Survive release date?
After numerous delays, the Digimon Survive release date was eventually moved to this year. Now, thanks to prominent leaker Ryokutya2089, it looks like we might finally know exactly when the game is launching. Ryokutya2089 puts the Digimon Survive release date at July 28th, when it'll launch for PC and consoles. Ryokutya is a pretty reliable source; it's a site that often leaks information coming from Japanese video game magazines (in this case, it's apparently V-Jump, which is where Digimon Survive was originally revealed back in 2018).
It's been a long, hard road for Digimon Survive. Officially revealed in 2018 and set for a 2019 release, the game was subsequently delayed to 2020. Most of 2020 passed without any news regarding Digimon Survive, but in October that year, producer Kazumasa Habu announced another delay, this time pushing the game back to 2021. It was then delayed once again to 2022, but if Ryokutya2089 is to be believed, then it won't be getting delayed again, which should come as good news for you if you're a Digimon fan.
What is Digimon Survive?
Digimon Survive is a visual novel-style RPG-survival hybrid that takes place in an entirely new world. You play as Takumu Momotsuka, a young man transported to this new world while at camp. Naturally, the new world is full of Digimon, and you'll need to work with both them and the world's other inhabitants in order to get by. Your relationships with other characters and with the Digimon around you will play an important part in how you interact with the world, and there will be major choices to make during the visual novel segment that could result in losing characters forever.
If the Ryokutya2089 leak is accurate, Digimon Survive launches for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on July 28th. Presumably, you'll be able to play the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as well via backwards compatibility. Digimon fans have been waiting patiently for this one for a few years now, so here's hoping that this release date is final and that no more delays are forthcoming. As ever, we'll bring you more on this as soon as we get it.
