Five years on from the original release of Diablo III, Blizzard are still adding content into the game. The Rise of the Necromancer pack will launch on June 27th, adding the new Necromancer class as well as some additional items. The pack will be purchasable in game on PC and through the Xbox Live Store or PlayStation Store for their respective consoles for $14.99.
The Necromancers, or Priests of Rathma, have been a highly requested addition to the game from the Diablo fanbase, after first making their debut in Diablo II. Blizzard tell us that Diablo III's Necromancers "Draw upon the power of blood and bone to protect humanity, transforming the lifeless carcasses of their slain enemies into undying servants—or just blowing them up, because that’s fun, too."
In addition to the new class, those who purchase the pack will get access to some in-game cosmetic and account items. The include a new non-combat Golem pet, cosmetic 'Wings of the Crypt Guardian' item, two additional character slots, two stash tabs (on PC only), and a Necromancer banner sigil, shape, accent, and portrait frame.
In addition to the separate Necromancer pack, Blizzard will also release Diablo III: The Eternal Collection. This new edition of the game will include the base game and all previous additions, as well as the Necromancer pack. This bundle will be available to PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold members for a discounted introductory price of $39.99, the regular price will be $59.99.
The addition of the Necromancer comes close to other changes coming in the game's next planned update, patch 2.6.0, but Blizzard has confirmed that other new additions such as challenge rifts and the new areas for adventure mode, Shrouded Moors and Temple of the Firstborn, will be part of a free update for all owners of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls and won't require the Necromancer pack to play.
Will the Necromancer or the other changes coming in patch 2.6.0 bring you back to Diablo III? Will The Eternal Collection be your jumping in point for the game or the series? Let us know down in the comments!
