Developer Devolver Digital has teased another game before their first E3 press conference, and fans speculate it is the return of the cult classic Metal Wolf Chaos.
Several tweets over the past few days have teased the return of the game. Devolver Digital has been pushing for a re-release of Metal Wolf Chaos for years now, including this old tweet from 2016 pledging to help release it on behalf of FromSoftware if they were interested.
Metal Wolf Chaos was developed by FromSoftware, the team behind the Souls series, as an exclusive title for the Microsoft Xbox in Japan in 2004. The game, a parody of American politics and the George W. Bush administration, the game stars the 47th president of the United States survives a coup by his vice president thanks to a giant mech suit called Metal Wolf.
The game was only released in Japan but contains an English voice cast. Due to this, it has been re-released on the internet several times, attaining cult status over the years. The big break for Metal Wolf Chaos was when the game's cutscenes and gameplay were released on Youtube, attracting many players with the over the top, hammy premise.
There is no guarantee Metal Wolf Chaos is the game coming to E3, but all signs point to it being a surprise title for Devolver Digital's first press conference, taking place on Sunday at 11 PM EST.
Quick TakeMetal Wolf Chaos is cheesy, ridiculous but pretty darn fun to watch. I love the fact that it was a thinly veiled parody of the ridiculousness of American politics, think Team America but with mechs. If Devolver Digital has the blessing of FromSoftware to re-release the game or provide a sequel or reboot, that is only a boon for them. Cult classic games like this are always a fun time to be had, and a lot of players out there would relish in a game that doesn't take itself so seriously.
