The G String Half-Life 2 mod has been out for almost a year. Unfortunately, its developer Eyaura has revealed that the sales of this intriguing PC cyberpunk game did not live up to expectations.
G String puts you in the shoes of Myo Hyori, a young Korean girl living in the North American Union after Earth's environment has been badly destroyed. It's been in development for well over a decade and launched on Steam late last year. Despite what the name may lead you to think, it is not a lewd, adult, or even suggestive game. While it's had some good critical reception, it sadly did not have the sales to match.
'I Couldn't Give Up' On the G String Half-Life 2 Mod Sales, Developer Says
The G String Half-Life 2 mod sales were nothing short of a disappointment for the game's developer Eyaura, especially when one considers that she put 12 years of her life and over 45,000 hours into making this game.
"So looking at how G String performed is this success?" Eyaura said in a lengthy ModDB news post. "Should I feel good about it? Sure, creatively I am glad I "got it out of my system". It still beats rotting behind a desk in a [dead-end] job but the release did leave with a void and the reception... Well, it is what it is but in the end no one can blame me for not advertising enough."

According to Eyaura, she sent out over 3,000 e-mails, made over 100 videos, and created countless Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit posts in an effort to promote her game. Despite these efforts, the G String Half-Life 2 mod only sold "a few thousand" copies in its first year.
Eyaura's reaction to this development has been mixed. On the one hand, it can be incredibly disheartening to see all of your work not turn into a smash success, especially when other, less-complex indie games seem to blow up at random.
"In the end what kind of message does all this send out to other devs?" she continued. "'Stick to your guns no matter what and in the end... Well in the end you'll go out with a whimper. You were right. You made it but so what? No one cares.' This is not the message I wanted G String to stand for."
Despite these challenges, though, she's not giving up on working on the game and making art for other projects in what she categorizes as a mix of delusion and stubbornness.
"I did the best I could with what I had and I will continue to do so as much as I can because I have no choice- it's in my nature to keep going, to keep trying against all odds because in the deepest, most delusional corners of my mind, I still believe this thing will take off. How or when? No clue. Will I even be alive by then? No clue."
G String most recently launched a major update in July and Eyaura apparently plans to release another major update in Winter 2021. If you're looking for a new cyberpunk shooter to play, you can buy G String on Steam for $17.99 or your regional equivalent.
