Desperados 3, the last game Mimimi Games worked on

Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun developer Mimimi Games will self-publish its next project. It's currently known as Codename Süßkartoffel (German for "sweet potato") and will be partially financed by a German government grant.

How did Mimimi Games make the decision to self-publish?

In a blog post on its official website, Mimimi Games says it felt "a strong desire to, at least once, make our own choices (and mistakes)". This decision, Mimimi says, will allow the studio to "take full control" of both the creative and business aspects of the development and publishing processes. In short, Mimimi says it wants to create a game that is "100% made by Mimimi Games". The studio previously worked with Daedalic Entertainment on Shadow Tactics and with THQ Nordic on Desperados 3.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, a Mimimi Games title
Mimimi Games' breakout hit Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun was published by Daedalic Entertainment.

According to Mimimi, Codename Süßkartoffel will be funded through various different avenues. One of these avenues is the German government, which will be providing funding as part of an official gaming industry grant. The grant is managed by the German BMVI (Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure). In addition to the government, a second "undisclosed and independent" investor will also be contributing funds to the project. Mimimi says it will discuss this investor in more detail at a later date.

What do we know about Codename Süßkartoffel?

Right now, not very much is known about Mimimi Games' next title. The studio has said it will be a real-time tactics game in a similar vein to previous titles Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. Right now, it's represented only by a cheeky placeholder depicting a sweet potato. Mimimi has previously used vegetable-themed codenames for its other projects; Desperados 3 used the codename "Kartoffel" (potato), and THQ Nordic was referred to in internal staff documents as "farmer". Amusingly, Mimimi also says it has a vegetable-themed codename ready for its next project after Codename Süßkartoffel.

In order to craft Codename Süßkartoffel, Mimimi says it will be expanding its studio up to around 40 employees. As such, the studio is looking to hire new staff including animators, a product manager, and a communications assistant. You can check out the kind of people Mimimi is looking for over on the studio's official staff hiring page to see if you'd be a good fit.

Mimimi will share more details on Codename Süßkartoffel "in due course", according to its announcement. If you're interested and want to keep up with the project, you can sign up to the mailing list. As ever, we'll bring you more on this as soon as we get it.
