Defend the North 2017, which took place in White Plains, New York from July 29-30, one of the many respectably large fighting game events scattered around the northeastern region of the United States, has concluded. As a regional ranking event for the Capcom Pro Tour, Street Fighter V, in particular, drew more contenders than the rest.

DTN features a massive lineup of games divided into two tiers: Tier I and Tier II. Tier I games are the headliners – new or popular games expected to have the most entrants. They include: Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Injustice 2, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, The King of Fighters XIV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Pokken Tournament, and Killer Instinct.

Tier II titles are older or more niche games expected to have fewer entrants. They include: Ultra Street Fighter IV, Mortal Kombat XL, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, BlazBlue: Central Fiction, and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore. For the sake of being concise due to the huge lineup, the Tier I game results will be presented normally, while Tier II game results will only have winners listed. However, due to Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 having less than four total entrants each, their results will be excluded entirely.

Streams were handled by TeamSp00ky, Bifuteki, HouseOf3000, NYC_VF, TSB_Blaze, and EvoGamingNYC, all on Twitch.

As usual, players will be listed in “[sponsor/team name] | [player name]” format, with their used characters named, and tournament brackets on Smash.gg linked to.
