Deep Rock Galactic will be moving to themed Seasons rather than updates going forward, with Season 01: Rival Incursion being the first. It's a stark difference to previous updates this year, which added more in the way of modding options rather than content. Don't get me wrong, modding is incredible in and of itself, but more content from the developers is something we should all be able to get excited about.
What is in Deep Rock Galactic Season 01: Rival Incursion?
Deep Rock Galactic Season 01: Rival Incursion (which is quite a mouthful) will include four new primary weapons, a new boss-fight mission that should challenge players, and the Performance Pass that is a 100% free Battle Pass option for players.

The performance pass will have 100 levels of free unlocks for players to chase. They'll do so some from tokens called Scrips that will allow players to choose from a Cosmetic Tree. This could be things such as satchels of Credits and crafting materials, brand-new Victory Moves, or even a full set of new Weapon Frameworks for every gun in the game, which also includes the four new primary weapons coming with the update.
The Season will also come with a new cosmetic DLC pack called the Rival Tech Pack, which will allow players to spice up their guns to match with the new enemy faction that will be introduced in the update. Check it out in the trailer below:
If you want to check out the update beforehand, there's an Experimental Branch that has been released first so that Ghost Ship Games can receive some valuable last-minute feedback. Don't know how? Don't worry, there's a handy-dandy guide below:
How do I play the Experimental Branch for Deep Rock Galactic Season 01?
To get into the action early, you'll have to right click on Deep Rock Galactic in your Steam Library, choose Properties, go to the Betas tab and select experimental – latest dev build – enter at own risk from the drop down tab. Once done, close the menus and possibly restart Steam so that the new build is downloaded. If you want to check out the patch notes first, they are here.
