Dean Hall, the creator of the popular ARMA II mod DayZ, has presented his new game Stationeers at EGX Rezzed. EGX Rezzed is a British event that features panels by industry specialists as well as games that are not playable anywhere else. Stationeers is one of those games and is being developed by Hall's RocketWerkz studio.
Inspired by the beloved Space Station 13, Stationeers puts you in control of the construction and management of a space station either by yourself in single-player, or online with your friends. Complex systems around atmospherics, power generation, medical, agriculture, food, and gravity require your thought and management at all times.RocketWerkz has announced that this game will soon be available as part of Steam's Early Access program that allows players to buy into the beta, funding continued development.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Hall talks a bit about what RocketWerkz is trying to do with Stationeers: .
We don't want people to turn up and think it's a first-person, hardcore shooter, 3000 player game because that's not what it is. It's a hardcore, niche game in an area I've been interested in for a decade. We're working on big, crazy stuff at the studio as well - this is not it. It's still something I'm very passionate about; I have been spending a lot of time on this project.Hall goes on to say that they expect to move at least 20,000 units and that the game has been in a closed test for at least a month at this point.

When Hall left Bohemia Interactive to pursue other interests in gaming, there was some controversy about Hall seemingly abandoning the DayZ standalone mid-development. DayZ has been stuck in Early Access for a while now, which is why there is some skepticism in regards to releasing Stationeers via Early Access as well.
I seriously thought after DayZ I wouldn't do Early Access again.Despite that, Hall and his team at RocketWerkz are determined to make Stationeers a success despite Hall's history with Early Access.
But I talked a lot with Tynan Sylvester from RimWorld and Felipe [Falanghe] who made Kerbal Space Program, and I realised [KSP] would be totally different if it was made entirely behind closed doors. And I think a lot of my ideas are terrible, so the community are part of filtering that.
Stationeers isn't the only game RocketWerkz is working on. In addition to Stationeers, which is developed by a small team of 6 with the rest of the 34 developers are focused on an as of yet unannounced game.
