It seems like yet another remaster is coming to the current generation of consoles, this time in the form of the Dead Island series. There were actually rumors about this coming out last year after South African retailer Loot.co.za accidentally listed it early on their store's website.

According to the press release the definitive edition will include the original Dead Island along with its Bloodbath Arena and Ryder White single-player DLCs. Furthermore, the pack will include its sequel/stand-alone expansion Dead Island: Riptide. Both games will have improved textures, lighting, shadows, and anti-aliasing. Both games will also have a completely reworked UI.

In a particularly interesting move, the definitive edition will also be adding a fan-favorite unofficial "Power Fist Power-Up" mod to both games. I've done a bit of searching and I can't find any mod named "Power Fist Power-Up", but it sounds like they're talking about the popular Fist of the Dead Star mod for the game.

Finally, for people who already own the Dead Island games and aren't sure why to pick this up, there will be one more addition and that comes in the form of a completely new game called Dead Island: Retro Revenge. This third game appears to be a 16-bit side scrolling beat-'em-up and will be featuring "power-ups, super attacks, and a combo system." It appears to be modeled after old school arcade beat-'em-ups, and may be an interesting addition to the package.

Dead Island Retro Revenge

That said, there is a bit to worry about as Dead Island hasn't quite had the best track record lately. Last year Dead Island 2 had its developer kicked off the project and the new developer still has not been announced. Last year also saw MOBA spin-off title Dead Island: Epidemic get shut down before leaving beta. Finally the most recent Dead Island game, 2014's spin-off Escape Dead Island, was heavily criticized and generally considered to be a train wreck.

If the developers don't get sacked again, then Dead Island Definitive Edition will be releasing May 31st, 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC at the price of $39.99 for both games. You can also buy Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide individually for $19.99 each. No price on Dead Island: Retro Revenge yet.
