In the latest developer update for Dead by Daylight, Peanits, a Community Manager at Behavior Interactive, shed some details on what exactly is going on with the Dead by Daylight Leatherface masks. Basically, y'all messed up. To elaborate, the Cannibal can (for now) unlock the faces of the four original survivors by sacrificing them 25 times. However, due to reports of targeting and harassment from people using those masks, the Dead by Daylight Leatherface masks will be taken away in the upcoming Mid-Chapter update.
For those of you that have played The Cannibal by the release of the Mid-Chapter update, you will be given 6,000 Iridescent Shards as compensation for the Dead by Daylight Leatherface masks removal. While this is a huge bummer, it looks like there was a portion of the playerbase that couldn't handle the shiny toy they were given, so now it's gone. Better luck next time, I guess.
Still, it isn't all good news. Apparently, you can't buy other Leatherface cosmetics with the Shards being given out - because Dead by Daylight has multiple currencies - so basically players are losing cosmetics and aren't being given the means to replace them for the same character. There are additional cosmetics that can be purchased with Cells instead of Shards for Leatherface, so that's a potential solution if Behaviour wants to change matters on that score.
In other news, grade rewards are also being revisited. Originally, the rewards ranged up to 250,000 Bloodpoints a month, but as Behavior thinks that the "current reward for your efforts doesn't seem very fitting, so we will be increasing the grade rewards". This will start on the season starting on January 13th, with rewards being sent out on February 13th. There's no word on what rewards will be given out, so stay tuned on that front.
