We've got another DayZ update (1.17) out on PC and Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, and with it comes a bunch of quality of life improvements, new craftable items, non-craftable items and weapons, and other feature improvements such as gas mask filters now able to be refilled. DayZ will also be hosting its popular Walpurgis Night event from today until May 9th, 2022, so players should be on the lookout for infected witches and burning bonfires all around the map. Let's check it out, shall we?

What's in the latest DayZ update?

New control and sensitivity settings are being offered to players, which means that players will be able to adjust their controls in different scenarios such as aiming, moving, and steering. There's also been some upgrades to the control scheme for controllers and an added alternative control scheme. There's also been a VOIP UI upgrade. Players can now see icons being shown only during transmission, there's a release delay for push-to-talk mode, and there's now the ability to change the VOIP distance on a controller.

New craftable items include an improvised gas mask filtera belt out of rope, a cookware stand for a fireplace, and a new set of improvised clothing made out of rags. Bones can also be used to craft as bone knife, and stone knife crafting has been revised. Players can also use both types of blades to make an improvised spear. Other non-craftable items and weapons include new melee weapons such as the meat tenderizer, cleaver, and a pitchfork. There's also some civilian firearms being added such as the CR-550 Savanna, the Longhorn pistol, and the P1 9mm pistol.

Other feature improvements are cookware being damaged with extended use, and heat sources such as torches, vehicles, and power generators can now increase as player's heat comfort. There's also been minor changes to both official terrains. As for the aforementioned Walpurgis Night, survivors can temporarily collect items such as the Witch Hat, Hood, Cauldron, and Crooked Nose. Players will also be able to set their Birch Broom on fire and turn it into a festive weapon.
