Remember how a remastered release of Darksiders II - dubbed the "Deathinitive Edition" - released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC? It looks like the developers aren't done with porting the series to next-generation platforms. The original title in the franchise, starring War, is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, and with an enhanced port to PC. Much like last year's Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, Darksiders' "Warmastered" release will include improved graphics for all platforms. Besides running at 1080p/60fps on most platforms (30fps for Wii U), the title will boast improved shadow rendering, post-processing effects, and texture resolution. The PC release will also include a 4k rendering option, and additional video options compared to the title's original PC port. The port is being developed by the same team as Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, and will retail for $19.99 or your regional equivalent starting October 25th.

For players not already familiar with the series, Darksiders is a series of games that play like a mix between The Legend of Zelda, and God of War. The original title released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and with an eventual PC port; Darksiders II released on all of the original's platforms, as well as Wii U. The series was originally published by THQ before the publisher infamously filed for bankruptcy and sold off all their Intellectual Properties and is now published by Nordic Games.

Quick Take

My only personal experience with the Darksiders series has been when I received a Steam code for the second title in a twitter giveaway following THQ's demise. I still haven't finished the game, but I thought it was an interesting title, and I've been meaning to get back it eventually. Today's announcement sounds as good as any excuse for me to get back into the series; I find it especially interesting that Darksiders Warmastered Edition will be seeing a Wii U release in 2016. I guess it's fitting since Darksiders II was a launch title for the Wii U in the first place.
