Red Hook has revealed the release date for the massive upcoming Darkest Dungeon 2 Kingdoms update - or the first part of it, at least - as well as the paid Inhuman Bondage DLC pack.

As announced back in AugustDarkest Dungeon 2's Kingdoms update is so big that the developer decided to split it into three parts. The first part, Hunger of the Beast Clan, will arrive on January 27th.

That's also when Inhuman Bondage, a brand new paid DLC pack for Darkest Dungeon 2, will launch. Despite the fact that Kingdoms is a free update, it's arguable that the two are comparable in terms of significance.

Darkest Dungeon 2's Kingdoms update and Inhuman Bondage DLC are landing on the same day.

The Kingdoms update is set to add a new campaign style to Darkest Dungeon 2, one that combines the traversal and combat style of the sequel with the "permanence and roster management" of the first game.

As you might expect, the new mode will also be called Kingdoms, and it'll involve you journeying across the kingdom in order to defend it from one of three factions: the Beastmen, the Coven, and the Crimson Courtiers.

This first part covers the Beastmen, with the other two set to be introduced in further free updates later down the line. Naturally, we're not sure when those are coming just yet, as the first part hasn't been released yet.

Inhuman Bondage, meanwhile, is a new paid DLC pack for Darkest Dungeon 2 that adds a new mini-region in the form of the Catacombs, described by Red Hook as a "high risk, high reward region" you can experience in both Confessions and Kingdoms.

Picking up the DLC will also give you the chance to play as the new Abomination hero, as well as a new "slime-sodden enemy faction" you'll encounter in the Catacombs.

News of the update and DLC's release date arrives just two months after Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive acquired Red Hook, technically making these releases the first under the umbrella of the studio's new owners.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is available right now for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The first part of the Kingdoms update, as well as the Inhuman Bondage DLC, arrive on January 27th.
