Dark Souls III hasn't come out in the West yet but Japanese players that have already been playing that title have been reporting a very revealing glitch.

Flagged first by Kotaku, the glitch seems to happen when robe wearing players use an emote to prostrate themselves. Japanese twitter user ziku66661 and others have been diligently chronicling the glitch as seen below:

While glitches in titles are always present especially in larger AAA ones, such as The Witcher 3's Roach or those nightmare-inducing faces from Assassin's Creed: Unity, they're usually patched out as quickly as possible to not break the experience for players. Reviews for Dark Souls III are coming out on many sites this week and, seeing as Bandai Namco sent all of the review copies with the day one patch according to sites, this glitch will likely still be present at launch. It's ironic that this glitch should appear after a string of Japanese censorship in games like Star Ocean, Bravely Second and Fire Emblem. Not to mention it comes after all of the controversy surrounding Tracer's victory pose in Blizzard's Overwatch.

With all that in mind I'm sure From Software is hard at work getting to the bottom of this one.

Dark Souls III releases on April 12th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Quick Take

Okay, I know that glitches are annoying. There's nothing worse than when we're playing a  game and a bug, glitch, or programming error comes along and takes you right out of the experience, or worse yet, breaks the game. (I'm looking at you backpack from The Division) With that being said, there are some glitches that are just humorous and just plain fun, and that's why we play video games in the first place. I can only hope that From Software will look at all the coverage on this glitch and own it.

This glitch will get patched out of Dark Souls III, don't get me wrong, but I hope that the developers add in a special set of robes that are guarded by a towering boss in one of the game's many secret areas, and obtaining these robes will allow the player to preform the glitch. It would be the ultimate joke for a game that takes itself so serious, so dark in both tone and lore, for a player to be invaded and for that invader to greet their opponent with their backside.
