Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka has announced a new game. Enigma Archives: Rain Code is a new mystery title by Kodaka and several other key creatives from the Danganronpa series. It's being published by Kodaka's former employer Spike Chunsoft.

What do we know about Enigma Archives: Rain Code?

So far, we don't have a lot of information about Kodaka's new game. According to a press release, it's a "dark fantasy mystery game" being worked on by Kodaka's company Tookyo Games, with co-development and publishing being handled by Spike Chunsoft. There's also a teaser trailer depicting some of the game's aesthetics and characters, which you can take a look at here.

The trailer shows a neon-drenched, rain-soaked city, as well as a young boy and what looks to be his ghostly companion. He's brought to a "Mystery Labyrinth" by a mysterious woman wielding a scythe, with further teaser shots depicting him navigating the labyrinth and investigating what appears to be a murder scene. All in all, if you love Danganronpa like we do, it's a pretty safe bet you're going to love this.

Why should you be excited for Enigma Archives: Rain Code?

If you've never played a Danganronpa game before, here's a quick rundown. The series is a mixture of visual novel, point-and-click adventure game, and dating sim, with each installment following a group of high school kids as they work to stop a sadistic force from making them kill each other. There are also deductive puzzles in a similar vein to Ace Attorney, so if you loved the recent release of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles in the West, Danganronpa would be a pretty good place to go.

If you love Danganronpa, then Enigma Archives: Rain Code should be right up your street (or Mystery Labyrinth).

If you're already a longtime Danganronpa fan, you should know to be excited for Enigma Archives: Rain Code. With many of the original creative team returning, including composer Masafumi Takada and artist Rui Komatsuzaki, it's fair to call this a Danganronpa spiritual successor. We'll likely learn more about Enigma Archives: Rain Code in the coming weeks and months. Until then, you can grab all three Danganronpa games on PC and PlayStation consoles. They're also on their way to Switch in but a scant few days.

Dark Souls changed my life, and I'm here to spread the good news. I like pretty much all sorts of games, but I judge everything by its proximity to our Lord and saviour, Dark Souls.
