CD Projekt Red has released a major Cyberpunk 2077 update that's bringing the game to next-gen consoles. You can finally play the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but there are also plenty of fixes on the way for the game across all currently available platforms.

What does the new Cyberpunk 2077 update bring?

According to a CD Projekt Red live stream, Cyberpunk 2077 update 1.5 is mainly about bringing next-gen functionality to the game. The last patch fixed a whole bunch of problems, but this one is a little more ambitious. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game are available right now; if you've got the PS4 or Xbox One versions of the game, you'll get a free upgrade, so make sure you take advantage of that. CD Projekt Red is also introducing a free 5-hour trial so you can see if you like Night City or not, and if you do, you can transfer your trial save to the full game if you decide to buy it. This will likely come as a pleasant surprise for those who were waiting for the next-gen versions of the game to launch since they were delayed last year.

Night City is going to look a whole lot nicer on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the new Cyberpunk 2077 update.

There are also a whole host of changes coming to the game as part of the next-gen update. Both flagship next-gen machines will be able to play the game in Performance or Quality modes, with the former offering a 4K 60fps experience with "small and rare frame drops" and the latter bringing a 4K 30fps experience. The Xbox Series S will only be able to run the game at 1440p and 30fps, though. If you're playing on PS5, the game takes advantage of the DualSense controller's haptic feedback feature and speaker, and the Xbox version supports Smart Delivery.

What other big changes are coming in Cyberpunk 2077 update 1.5?

Several of the features included in Cyberpunk 2077 update 1.5 were actually datamined back in July last year. The game is getting four major new DLC packs, each of which is free. In the first, weapon seller Wilson will have several new weapons available for you. The second DLC adds new customization options for V and the chance to change your appearance in your apartment's mirror. The third pack lets you rent new apartments and redecorate your Megabuilding home, and the fourth DLC is all about adding new photo mode options for Johnny Silverhand.

If you love Johnny Silverhand, you'll enjoy the new Cyberpunk 2077 update DLC.

There are a bunch more improvements coming to the game as part of this new update as well. These include better crowd and enemy AI, changes to the game's driving physics, and an improvement to the skip time mechanic so it's clearer exactly when you're skipping to. You'll also find that perks have been completely overhauled in this new update; your perks will have been reset when you load your save, but you'll have access to a bunch of new perks, while others have been removed. Make sure you check your character to see if your build has been affected (spoiler: it almost certainly has).

When is the Cyberpunk 2077 update 1.5 release date?

You can download and play the new Cyberpunk 2077 update right now. If you already own the game on PC, PS4, or Xbox One, you'll find the update waiting for you. Next-gen players, meanwhile, can grab their upgrades right now. Handily, CD Projekt Red also released a quick overview of all the changes coming to the game, as well as whether or not your platform will be getting these updates. Here's the cheat sheet courtesy of CDPR.

Cyberpunk 2077 has had a funny old time of it post-launch. After being criticized for a rather lackluster launch window (and after CD Projekt Red encountered legal difficulties with investors regarding said launch), CD Projekt Red insisted they were "satisfied" with the game's stability and performance. However, if the new patch is anything to go by, it's clear there's a lot more work to do on the game before it's exactly where the studio wants it to be. We'll bring you more on this game as soon as we get it.
