Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date In Limbo

Earlier this week, Jason Schreier of Kotaku told a Twitter user: "[I don't know] where you saw that rumor but Cyberpunk [2077] is absolutely not coming out this year." Although this seemed like an offhand remark, he did qualify it with "absolutely." The tweet soon reached Reddit, more specifically the r/cyberpunkgame subreddit, where it caused quite the furor, understandably. Now Schreier has just posted a new tweet clarifying and expanding on the information available to him, based on three sources:

Schreier also posted a report on Kotaku earlier this month, where he talked to CD Projekt co-founder and Joint CEO Marcin Iwiński and CD Projekt RED Head of Studio Adam Badowski about the development of the massive open-world first-person RPG, which is still going at full steam ahead. Following Schreier's comprehensive reports of crunch culture in AAA studios such as Rockstar Games and BioWare, the Polish company is obviously trying to address the elephant in the room, while employees are starting to leak information about the current state of development.

It's very possible then that Schreier's sources are correct, and that the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 is in a bit of a limbo. CD Projekt RED has already announced that E3 2019 will be the most important in the studio's history, which bodes well, but there's still no promise of a release date. We do have confirmation that there will be another closed doors demo of the game just as it happened at E3 2018, where developers will demonstrate the game to press and influencers.

Our on-site E3 coverage team will be there checking it out again, just as our Editor-in-Chief did last year. And our online coverage team will also work on another comprehensive report of all the new information we manage to learn from other sources, the same as last year.

What do you think? Will Cyberpunk 2077 release in 2019, 2020, or 2077? Let us know in the comments below!
